iPhone 2.2 Firmware Goodies

It's coming, and while it won't rock our world, it will bring some neat improvements. We'd list them all here, but Wired.com has already done a great job of it for us!

Here's the cheat sheet:

  • Streetview in Google Maps
  • Direct Podcast Downloads
  • Application Rating
  • Emoji Icons :0)
  • Location Sharing
  • And some Safari tweaks.

We feel most of these are ho-hum additions to the already stellar iPhone software. However, we are really hoping (actually, praying) that this update greatly increases the stability of Safari. If you've got over 30 applications on your iPhone, like everyone at iPhonePOV does, Safari crashes all the time. It's poopy.

Get Google Earth

Google has taken one step further on their total conquest for control of all things digital by releasing a great program called Google Earth for iPhone.

It's the same as their desktop based Google Earth, except it's on the iphone and it can use the iPhone 3G's GPS circuitry to pinpoint your exact location.

What makes it better than its desktop sibling is that it works decently with a 3G connection and you can change the perspective of your view by tilting the iPhone forward and back.

It's a great program and it's free. Go get it.

Interesting fact: If the Earth was as small as a pinball, it would also be smoother than a pinball.
